Route
Route
A challenging walk over a considerable distance through areas of great natural beauty including the river beds of the Solano and Cuevas which afford spectacular views of the surrounding cliffs and rocky mountains.
Leave the Balcón by the old road towards Los Ventorros, continuing to Concas at the north end of the Mazmullar plateau, then the Breña Cross, taking the road to Los Chamizos and crossing the Solano dam towards Romo, immediately turning right to follow the riverbed east in the direction of Llano de Almendras.
Leave the river below Cabracerril in the direction of Eznite and the cross of Los Hijanos, a steep climb to the top where there are impressive views of the Peña de Hiero (Peak of Iron) and the Sierra Tejada.
Continue down towards Eznite using the tarmac road between Vélez-Málaga and Comares, up to the village, passing el Tajo, Haza Grande and on to the Lavadero (Green Route) signed at the crossroads. Return to the point of departure, Plaza Balcón de la Axarquía, tired but happy.
This trek is, because of its characteristics and length, most suitable for mountain bikes, and strong legs.
